Jewellery care guide
It is very important to understand that gold plating requires very gentle care. This kind of coating disagrees with any prolonged wetness, salt water, various cosmetics and chemical substances.
Gold plated jewellery should not be ever wiped or polished with any coarse fabrics. By wiping or polishing the jewellery, you can actually gradually rub off the gold plating. This will not happen quickly, but by doing so the coating will gradually vanish. This happens with all gold plated jewellery, no matter how thick the plating is. This is also the same with solid gold. But because the jewellery is made of solid gold, there will be no visible difference, however the jewellery will get slightly thinner over the years. Keep that in mind when taking care of your gold plated or solid gold jewellery.
Traditional gold and silver cleaning methods are not recommended for gold plated surfaces. The best way to clean it is to use a dry chamois or microfiber cloth. First you need to remove any oils from your jewellery. Do this by using a cotton ball dampened with a bit of alcohol or vinegar. Also, never try cleaning your jewellery with any abrasive or powder-like substances. This will again rub the plating off of the jewellery item.
